In October 2020 I installed two Samsung SSDs as cache devices in my NAS box (Synology DS918 ).
In the past 2 weeks, *both* of them failed. I suspect it’s because I have my security cameras writing to the NAS storage, and this crept my writes up to their 100% lifespan. No data loss because they’re cache devices only; my real data is on spinning disk.
I’m actually impressed that they failed at just about the same time. A good reminder to replace failing spinning disks immediately.<…

In this theoretical investigation, we analyze light-induced nonlinear spin Hall currents in a gated single-layer 1T$'$-WTe$_2$, flowing transversely to the incident laser polarization direction.
